Most people are obsessed with generating traffic and think of conversion rate optimization as an afterthought. I learned the hard way that it’s something you should pro-actively work on.
I missed out on so many buyers, subscribers, and content shares that I could cry just thinking about it.
I’d get notifications of people constantly looking at my offers and not getting any sales for months.
This is why in this post, I’m going to share with you 10 ways to increase the conversion rate of your website so that you don’t have to go through the same thing I did.
What is a conversion?
Before we get into the methods I thought it’d be a good idea to go through the basics by answering the question “what is a conversion?”.
We call an occurrence a conversion when a website visitor does a desired action such as purchase a product, sign-up for an email list, share some content, etc.
It’s the end of the process that started when a visitor lands on your page.
This doesn’t always go as smoothly as people like it to go. This is why these 10 methods will help you with getting more conversions.
Now let’s get into it!
1. Improve your CTA’s
Ironically, I’m going to start with an element that tends to be at the end of your pages.
The Call to action or in short the CTA.
The first step will be to add one if you haven’t already. You’d be surprised how many people don’t want to put a call to action on their website because they don’t want to feel too salesy.
The problem with this is that you won’t get anywhere if you don’t ask. If you’re still having problems after creating a CTA it may be the content in your call-to-action that needs to be improved.
Just saying click here or sign-up might work for some but other websites might need a bit more flavor.
An example of a great CTA could be asking if they want what they’re looking for.
“Do you want more sales?”
text in the button would be “Yes. Show me how”

There are a lot of ways you can go with your headlines. You’ll likely have to experiment with your call to action to get it right or get a sales-focused page builder that already has templates for you.
2. Add testimonials
A reason you aren’t getting the conversion you desire is a lack of trust in the products/service.
This is where testimonials can be a huge help with gaining that trust. When people see that other people have benefitted from your offer it’s more likely that they’ll take advantage of your offer as well.
This is why a lot of starting entrepreneurs do their first jobs for free just to get the testimonials and build up their credibility.

3. Remove unnecessary distractions
Thanks to modern technology your website can be equipped with all kinds of bells and whistles such as multiple menus, widgets, banners, and a lot more elements.
These features might all serve specific purposes but on webpages of which their main function is to convert leads, they’ll only function as distractions.
This is why a lot of sales pages have their text focused on the middle of the page and have no menus or sidebars. You want your leads to focus on one thing and something only.
The offer!
4. Add reaffirming quotes from influential figures
The only thing better than claiming an offer will be beneficial is someone else saying an offer will be beneficial.
Quotes from influential people reaffirming your statements can go a long way when it comes to increasing your conversion rate. This is especially true if it’s from a person that’s an expert in a

5. Add countdown timers
Countdown timers have been used for a long time to help with increasing the conversion rate of offers.
Countdown timers are effective because they invoke a feeling of scarcity. In this case, a scarcity of time. Seeing a clock ticking down forces a website visitor to make a decision as quickly as possible.
This prevents them from clicking away and being seduced by other offers and even if they click away in the back of their mind they know the offer won’t be there forever which increases the likelihood of them returning.
You missed out!
6. Add stories to your copy
Stories add a personal element to your sales copy especially if they’re yours or about someone you know.
They can also create clarity when it comes to showing how your offer can benefit the reader.
These stories don’t have to be entire essays but a few lines about in what situation a person was before taking advantage of your offer, the end goal they were trying to achieve, and how your offer was the bridge between those situations.
7. Switch up your offer
In some situations, your web page isn’t the problem but the service or product you’re offering.
In the past few years, I have tried to promote multiple affiliate products with the help of landing pages on my website but some just didn’t convert well.
The problem could be things like:
- the price not being aligned with the rest of the market.
- the reputation of the product or service
- the quality of the product or service
- the product not being relevant to solving the problem.
You’d be surprised in how many cases simply going with another product solves a lot of your problems.
8. Add a video version
Not everyone is going to be willing to read a page full of copy. This is why videos can be effective when it comes to increasing your conversion rate.
To many people (including myself) watching a video version of the copy on a webpage feels like less of a time and effort investment. People value their time so the chances of them investing time into something they don’t have a certainty they’ll benefit from is low.
The less investment is needed to comprehend what you’re selling, the more people that don’t know about it are willing to give it a chance.
Video also gives you a great opportunity to present how your product/service works in a quick and concise way.
9. Split test your headlines
Your headline is one of the most important sentences on your page because it is going to impact if people who land on your website stay.
This is why it’s important to not only split test your headlines but also take your time in crafting them.
To split test your headlines efficiently you’re going to have to define which elements of your headline you’re going to experiment on. Here are a few elements you can alter in your headlines.
- The length
- The benefits you name
- The numbers you use
- Your tone

10. Finetune the traffic you direct to your offer
Where you get your traffic from can make or break your success when it comes to lead conversion.
I remember creating a review of some software with the intent of putting one of the affiliate products as an alternative and seeing if people would give it a chance.
I started ranking #1 for a keyword related to the software and started getting around 400 clicks a week based on that keyword.
After a few days, I saw my bounce rate increase significantly meaning people would land on my website and immediately leave.
This happened because the keyword I ranked for was “product login”. All the clicks I got were from people trying to log in to the product so when they saw my review they’d leave without looking at my offers.
This is why it’s important to pick traffic sources that provide you with relevant traffic.
