How to get visitors to your blog and make a 4 figure monthly income
Why you should consider search engine marketing for your blog
Let’s take a look at how many people are on search engines like Google daily.
Those are a lot of eyes that potentially could be interested in reading your blog. What would you say if I said Google “rewards” people that make a lot of quality content by directing a lot of those eyes to your website? This is kind of what happens when you do search engine marketing.
Let’s take a look at how many people will be directed to your blog once you get ranked on a search engine.
As you can see websites in the first 10 spots get the majority of website visitors directed to them which makes sense. I can’t remember the last time I went on the second page of Google search results. So to get as much traffic as possible you should aim to get one of the top spots on search engines which you can do with the help of search engine marketing.
How to approach search engine marketing
There are two ways you can approach search engine marketing.
- Paying for advertisement on search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.
- Get on the first page of search engines by optimizing your website for search engines.
You can earn a lot of money using both but if I have to choose one, I’m going with search engine optimization because of:
- Minimal financial risks
Unlike paying for advertising you don’t need money to get eyes on your website. The bare minimum is creating quality content that search engines can use in their search results. - 24/7 Promotions
It doesn’t matter how late it is there will always be people on Google which means you’ll have 24/7 promotion globally. Unlike advertisement that stops the moment you stop paying. - Rankings are long-term, Traffic is passive
It takes a lot longer to get ranked but the moment you get one of the top spots it rarely goes down. I know people with high ranked content that update their websites only once every six months. You basically get website visitors without doing anything. - You can rank on multiple search engines simultaneously
The process to optimize your content is the same for all search engines so you’ll get the visitors from multiple search engines while optimizing your content once. - Gateway to other entrepreneurial endeavors
I wouldn’t say traffic is everything, but it’s a lot. Now that you have a consistent source of traffic if you want to, for example, create an app or an online course you don’t have to spend money promoting it. The moment you put online people will see it.
How do you get your website on the first page on Google?
Getting your content indexed by Google
To understand this we first have to look at how Google indexes and ranks content in their search results. Google goes all over the internet and searches for specific words and phrases in content that it uses to categories under which keyword pages should be shown when people use Google. To get indexed under specific keywords you’re going to have to use those keywords in your content. Just make sure you don’t keyword stuff your content, because that is going to have a negative effect on your rankings.
Having an effective keyword strategy
Looking back at the graph made by chitika you can see most of the traffic goes to the websites that are on the first page of search results. Getting your website indexed doesn’t guarantee that you’ll rank high enough to get on the first page of search engines such as Google. This is why you have to be smart when it comes to creating content that’ll get ranked high.
Competitions vs. Popularity
Not all keywords are created equal. Certain keywords are more popular than others and will get you way more traffic. The problem is that a lot of people compete to get on the first page for the search results of these keywords. This is why you have to be smart when targeting keywords or you’ll never rank for anything.
Try to find keywords that can get you a meaningful amount of visitors without having to deal with thousands of other websites that also want to rank for it. Most of the time these keywords won’t get you as many visitors as the most popular keywords but they’ll get you results quickly and if you target enough of these it will add up to the point you’ll get a lot of website visitors on a consistent basis.
Positioning your keyword
The positioning of your keywords is in my opinion almost just as important as actually putting them in your content. I was taught not to stuff my content with the keyword I wanted to target but just to put them in four different places.
I typically put my keywords in:
- The headline
- The first paragraph of my post
- The title tag
- The meta-description
There’s all this theory about where to position your keywords and some of it can be conflicting but based on the feedback I get about which keywords I rank for on Google search console I’d say this formula works.
Quality content
Google wants quality content so even though you’re going to optimize your content to target keywords your priority should be creating quality content. There are millions of mediocre blog posts out there that aren’t helping anyone. What Google needs isn’t more of that content it needs quality content that either entertaining or helpful. The best way to do this is to go in-depth with all your content.
Let’s say you create a post called “The Shy Guys Guide — How to get the girl next door” and in it you give tips like:
- Be confident
- Dress good
- Don’t be too nice
- Learn to become a good listener
If you’re really shy and don’t really have social skills this won’t help you at all. This is why you’ll always win when you make content that goes in-depth. This post could’ve been way better if it actually looked at what makes a person confident in general from a psychological standpoint and how can you replicate that process to become the confident person you always wanted to be, or instead of not being too nice look at how you can get better at enforcing your boundaries so people respect you more. That little amount of extra effort will go a long way when it comes to making content that Google will rank high.
User experience
Google has multiple ways to find out if people value your website and your content and one of those is looking at the user experience of your website. If people leave immediately after clicking on your website that’s not a good sign or if they leave after reading one post. There are multiple of these signals that Google uses.
A great way to find out if your user experience is good by Googles standards is to get a Google Analytics account.
Google analytics will show you information about:
- Users
The number of users on your website - Sessions
A session is defined as a group of interactions one user takes within a given time frame on your website. - Bounce rate
Percentage of people leaving after just seeing a single page. - Session time
The average time of website visitor’s session
Optimize your websites based on these factors and you’ll never have problems with your websites user experience.
There’s a lot more you can do to raise your chances to get on the first page of Google but never forget the most important thing is creating quality content.
How do I turn this blog into a passive income stream?
A high ranked website gets high targeted website visitors directed to it by Google based on the keywords you incorporate in your content. No need for advertisement or extra work when it comes to marketing. This means if you can automate the process of guiding website visitors to the products once they’re on there you basically have created a passive income stream.
There are a lot of methods you can make money once your marketing is done passive but if I could recommend one I’d go with Affiliate marketing.
What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a form of internet marketing where you partner up with companies and promote their products in exchange for a commission on every sale.
There are a few reasons why I think affiliate marketing is ideal for bloggers.
- No financial risk, because you’re promoting other people products.
- Less time-consuming, because you aren’t dealing with customer service
- No need for creating your own products which also takes time and energy.
This way you can spend most of your time doing what you love.
How does it work?
The easiest way to do it is to search for affiliate programs. With the help of Google, you should be able to find a lot of affiliate programs by typing “Affiliate programs + (name of your niche)”. Once you find a suitable program you sign up for their affiliate program and they’ll most likely provide you with links that direct visitors from your website to theirs. The link will track the people that used it and the moment they buy something you’ll get a commission.
Creating funnels for your affiliate promotions
The moment you know you can make money using affiliate links it’s tempting to put them everywhere on your website. This is a mistake. Affiliate links can easily turn a page with valuable content into one big promotion for your affiliate product which can be annoying to go through as a website visitor causing them to leave your website. This is why I advise creating what I call a funnel.
A sales funnel is the process leads go through from learning about your product to buying it. There are a lot of ways to do this but I’d recommend keeping this as simple as possible if you’re just starting out by following.
Step 1. Do some research and find out:
- Who your target audience is
- What is your target audience their goal
- What are the roadblocks that keep your target audience from achieving their goal
- What are your target audience their frustrations
- What are there fears (Why they would hesitate to buy your product.)
- Who in their surroundings influences them
Step 2. “Bribe” your target audience for their email address
Give something of value away to your target audience. Ideally, I’d go with something that would help with overcoming one of the roadblocks you identified in researching your target audience and over deliver to gain their trust.
Examples of these can be:
- Ebooks
- Simple online courses
- discounts
- etc.
Step 3. The thank you page
Thank them for downloading your free product and begin telling them about the benefits of your main affiliate product. Show them case studies and testimonials of others that have benefited from the product and show them how they personally can benefit from it. Also, tell them you will email them all kinds of free stuff that will help them with further roadblocks
Step 4. Call to action
After showing them all the benefits show them your offer. You have given enough value at this point to ask for it without it feeling like you’re pushing your leads. If they say yes you got a sale if they say no you can try giving more free value by email and afterward try again.
That’s all for today.
I hope this post gave you some more insight into how to get visitors to your blog and how to make money from it.
Feel free to leave a comment if you got any questions I’ll try to respond as soon as possible.
