This is a comprehensive Joomla review. Nowadays whenever somebody talks about creating a website the first thing we hear about is WordPress and how easy it is to create a website on it. We often forget that there are other content management systems like WordPress out there that are just as good or maybe more suited for what you’re trying to accomplish.
This is why I thought it would be good to look at some other content management systems and see what they have to offer and maybe even switch over if I find something I like.
So are you wondering if…
- Joomla is everything it claims to be on their website?
- it’s valuable for people with and without experience creating websites?
- Joomla is Legit?
Good News!
In this review, I’ll share with you:
- what Joomla is
- what the pros and cons of Joomla are
- who can benefit from using Joomla
- what kind of tools and features Joomla provides you with
- what support Joomla provides
- how much Joomla costs
- what my personal take on Joomla is
- How I make money with CMS’s such as Joomla

Joomla, product overview
Joomla is a content management system. It’s comparable to CMS’s like WordPress and Drupal. Joomla was created in 2005 out of the source code of a content management system called Mambo. The name is derived from a Swahili word which roughly translated means “as a whole”.
The Good & The Bad
The good
Pro #1 It’s open source!
This means the original source code is available for everyone for free.
You can go to the Joomla website and there you can download a Zip package and install it on your server or you can just create and launch the website from their website. You just have to fill out a form and follow the instructions.
Pro #2 It’s easy to install
No need for advanced computer knowledge just follow their instructions and you’ll be ready to use Joomla in no time.
Pro #3 Community
Joomla has a very passionate community to who you can go to if you’re experiencing any problems. I’ve even heard stories of people in the community coming up with code that could improve Joomla and send it to them for free.
The bad
Con #1 The bridge between beginner and advanced options
Joomla is very easy to use as a beginner. In that regard, it reminds me of WordPress but the moment you try to become “fancy” and do some more advanced stuff it becomes more difficult really quick. You’ll have to start creating things with code.
Con #2 Limited supply of templates
Especially when you don’t know how to code templates really are a life saver. The problem is that the collection of templates that are available for free is much smaller than on other CMS’s such as WordPress.
Who is the Joomla for?
You can benefit from Joomla if:
- You need to create a website
- Don’t know how to code
- You’re a freelancer
- You run a digital agency
- You run a small business
- You run a large business

My personal take on Joomla
After researching Joomla I have to say that it’s an excellent content management system. It offers almost everything WordPress offers but gives you more freedom when it comes to customizing your website and its functionality.
If you’re a beginner or at the intermediate level when it comes to working with content management systems you’ll definitely thrive with Joomla! T
I have to warn you about the bridge between intermediate and doing advanced things like make very subtle changes. You’ll need to learn code to do that or hire someone that can code.
As long as you don’t need a website such as the ones large enterprises use you’ll be fine using Joomla.

Joomla is an open source platform on which Web sites and applications can be created. The original Joomla source code is free for everyone to use. You can download it on their website. It is extremely good for newbies but for advance to expert user it’s a bit complicated unless you know coding.
how long have you been using WordPress?
how long have you been using Joomla?
Hey JayKaynigltd,
Thanks for the comment. I’ve been using WordPress since 2014 for my websites ( I think) and my mom has been using Joomla for her business since 2010.
When she needs help with her website I often try to help out which got me accustomed to the basics of working with Joomla but I just started looking at most of the advanced features not too long ago because I knew I would write a review about it eventually.
