World Ventures/ Dream Trips — The Company behind the “You should be here” sign campaign

World ventures main page

The story of the “You Should Be Here Sign” campaign can’t be told without looking at the company that started the campaign.

The campaign was created by a company called World Ventures that rebranded itself into Dream Trips. Dream Trips was created by Wayne Nugent in 2005.

Dreamtrips basically buys a lot of travel-related products( flight tickets, Access to VIP parties, Hotels, restaurants, travel gear, etc.) at a lower price in bulk.

They can provide their members with cheap travel packages because of this in exchange for a one-time fee followed by a monthly fee.

World Ventures/ Dreamtrips is at his core a Multi-Level Marketing company which means it offers members the opportunity to make money by recruiting other people to market their products.

Wayne Nugent is no stranger to entrepreneurship but it’s not where he started his journey. He started out in the army and became a US marine. At this time, he traveled all over the world and realized that he needed more freedom.

In 1992 he left the army looking for something new and ended up getting into sales. He worked as a door-to-door salesman and according to his bio on world ventures had a lot of success with it.

Quickly after seeing that there was a cap to how much he could earn being a door-to-door salesman, he transferred to direct-sales which drastically increased his income but he was still left unfulfilled so in 200 he and Mike Azcue started World Ventures.

How does the "You Should Be Here" Sign Campaign Work?

The “You Should Be Here” sign campaign was created to spread awareness for the memberships of Dream trips. Members of Dreamtrips make photos in places acquired by the discounts on tickets provided by Dream Trips.

You should be here sign

The members get paid through a referral system. The moment someone sees your pictures and purchases a Dreamtrips membership based on your recommendation you receive payment.

The Major Problems with the “You Should Be Here Sign” campaign

There’s nothing wrong with having a referral program but if you researched dream trips you’ll notice there are some obstacles you’ll have to overcome when trying to make money with the “You Should Be Here Sign” campaign.

To participate in the campaign you need to be a member which comes with a hefty fee. There cheapest memberships are already a lot more expensive than most make money online products and also add a monthly fee you have to pay.

Joining the campaign doesn’t mean you get to travel for free. You’re still going to have to buy plane tickets and book a hotel or Airbnb. You’re basically investing a lot of money before you even have the chance to start making money.

Another problem with this campaign is that to make it profitable you’ll need to have a considerable online reach. Social platforms like Facebook and Pinterest limit their organic reach every year so that people will pay more for advertising on the platforms.

Nowadays the only people that see your pictures are the people that follow you and even then it’s a small portion of that group that gets your pictures on their newsfeed.

This makes it hard to succeed unless you already have a large following on social media.

The lack of long term success stories of this campaign confirms a lot of these problems. I tried to find some success stories online but the only thing I could find where people with pictures in three different countries max on Instagram.

I tried to contact a few of them but none of them would respond.

Who can benefit from The "You Should Be Here" Sign Campaign?

Who would benefit from joining the “You Should Be Here Sign” campaign

  • Influencers with large audiences
  • People that get a lot of organic traffic in general
  • People that already use the opportunities of the memberships in general

Who shouldn’t join the “You Should Be Here Sign” campaign

  • People that need a quick buck
  • People without a way to get exposure in a sustainable way

Pros and Cons

  • Pros
  • cons
  • Can’t earn more than you pay for your own membership
Dream trips have put a cap on how much you can earn depending on what kind of membership you have.

You can’t get a commission based on memberships that are higher than your own membership. They probably do this to encourage people to buy their most expensive memberships.

  • The financial investment you have to make beforehand
Just because you’re participating in the campaign doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed money.

This is actually a huge roadblock to earning a consistent income because you have to invest in buying travel tickets, travel gear, and paying for a place to stay not knowing if you’ll ever get that money back.

The financial investment needed to join the “you should be here” sign campaign

As I said before, not everyone can join the “you should be here sign” campaign. You first have to become a member of dream trips which costs a lot.

The dream trips memberships come in three tiers:

  • The Dreamtrips Gold membership, one-time fee $134,00 + monthly fee $59,99
  • The Dreamtrips Platinum membership, one-time fee $300,00 + monthly fee $99,99
  • The Dreamtrips Titanium membership, one-time fee $800,00 + monthly fee $199,99

According to the website, dependent on which membership you’ll be provided with different opportunities such as travel insurance, tickets, cruises and more.

My Personal Take

The more I find out about this program, the more it seems that the moment you become a member just to join the campaign the only thing that awaits is diminishing returns.

The costs of the memberships make it hard for the ordinary person to make a profit out of it.

Can you imagine paying the initial and monthly fees, plane tickets, and hotel and Airbnb costs hoping that someone will approach you when seeing your pictures and having them pay the same just to get a membership and receive just a percentage of the sale.

This doesn’t even include paying for exposure on social media and creating communication funnels needed to guide your leads to the Dreamtrips offers which will be needed if you want to be able to earn a full-time income with it.

I can’t imagine people earning a full-time income with the “you should be here” sign campaign.

Is The "You Should Be Here Sign" Campaign a Scam?

After doing extensive research I've come to the conclusion that the "You Should Be Here" sign campaign is not a Scam.

Still I wouldn't recommend making money with this campaign.

My reasons for this verdict are:

  • You need to pay a minimal of $194 just get started followed wit monthly payments.
  • You need to travel every time you want to take a picture.
  • Organic exposure on most social platforms is limited so you’ll probably have to pay money to promote your posts.

  2. Great review. As I am always looking for ways to make money at home (I am a grandma raising her grandchild) I need ways to enhance my income and not get taken by places that don’t have the potential to help me make money. I read your review with interest and then went on to read your review of Wealthy Affiliate and am nearly convinced that Wealthy Affiliate might be the way to go. Thanks for the honest input on both.

  3. Hi

When looking through the price structure I was amazed on how expensive it is, especially the amount of money you have to pay per month. This is beyond the range of most normal people as I suspect they cannot  to pay that much money. It may not be a scam but it does not mean that it is value for money. It seems to me like one of those schemes where you put a lot of  effort  for so little reward. It seems like not a programme for me, as I do not like the premise of it and the price of it.

I think we are at changing times, where travel will be increasingly frowned upon. So in the future it may be difficult to promote holiday destinations.

    Thanks

    Antonio

    • Hey Antonio,

Thanks for commenting. I think there’s only a select few that can benefit from trying to make money with this campaign. To me, it looks like they’re using the option to make money to attract people that’ll buy their memberships instead of people promoting the memberships.

It’s not a bad business model but the membership price is just too expensive in my opinion.

  4. Interesting business idea, but inorder to make money you need to have money. I think that when most people want to get started in a business of this nature, they probably don’t have much money to part with.

When I got started, so many of the programs out there would ask for so much money, I never had  that kind of money to part with, the people that are in need of money the most can’t afford these kinds of programs, much less the air fair.

Even though this program may not be a scam, it looks like it would be one that would be pretty difficult to make any money.

Naturally to get started with any kind of program there will be some money to put up front, that is what I like about Wealthy Affiliate, they are a legitimate business that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg and they care about their costomers. Thanks for your review, I find it very helpful.

    • Hey Neil,

I agree! You won’t get anywhere without investing in training and other resources but it has to be sustainable. I like Wealthy Affiliate for the same reasons you’ll be provided with enough value to get your business off the ground without digging yourself into a financial hole.
