Austin Evans his career path

Austin Evans started his YouTube channel in 2009, when he started reviewing first-person shooter games that you can purchase in the appstore such as iTGE FPS, Half Dead, and Dead Man’s Dungeon.

After having little success, he pivoted from his review content to talking about components he’d use if he’d build a hypothetical PC. An excellent way to start a tech channel without paying for the components you're mentioning.

These started to get more traction but it was only after uploading a video about how to build a PC under $500 his channel began to get popular.

While he slowly started to get more views he began to invest money in his PC-building videos and started actually purchasing the components.

He started to branch out and make other tech series one notably being a series just for mobile phones.

From 2019 and on his most mentioned videos were about the PlayStation 5 (while still doing gadget reviews and building PC’s). In one of his videos, he reviews the revised PlayStation 5 which was lighter in weight than the original PS5.

When disassembling it he found out the reason behind this was the PS5 having a small heatsink which through testing determined that the revised PS5 ran at 3 degrees higher than the original PS5.

As a result of the smaller heatsink, Austin mentioned that the revised PS5 might not perform as well as the original.

It turned out that after that a British video game website stated that the smaller heatsink indeed comes with an increase in temperature but the performance difference isn't necessarily worse.

At the moment, he’s still making videos 2 to 3 times a week and earning money from them.

Sources of income

Austin Evans has found multiple ways to monetize the views he gets from his YouTube channel. The 3 most prominent methods are YouTube Adsense, Brand Sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.

Let’s break it all down.

The YouTube Partner Program

Austin Evans is part of the YouTube Partner Program.

The YouTube Partner Program is a program for creators that gives them the ability to earn money by having people watch their videos.

YouTube puts ads between and in its videos and very time someone watches these ads the create earns money. Not everyone can apply for the YouTube Partner Program. There are 3 requirements needed to be eligible for earning money.

  • Obtained 500 subscribers.
  • 3 public uploads in the last 90 days.
  • 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

The YouTube Partner Program pays out between the $0,010 and $0,030 per adview which on average is $0,028 per ad view. 68% of that money will be send to the creator that produced the views through his content.

Austin Evans his YouTube channel has 5.4 Million Subscribers. According to the statistics on his YouTube channel he has had 1.341.862.197 views since starting his channel.

In the last month his channel had roughly 8,966,851 views and according to statistics brought  by VidIQ the channel gets 2.836.774 views per week.

This means Austin Evans YouTube brought in roughly $26.837.243,94 over the last 14 years. Since YouTube takes 32% of the revenue that’s brought Austin Evan would go home with $18.249.325,87.

Off course the partner program hasn’t been around for so long so it might be better to go with a weekly calculation of his views.

According to how much the partner program pays out on average Austin Evans earns $34.722,11 per week.

Brand sponsors

If you have watched some of Austin Evans’ videos, you’ll notice that they incorporate a lot of sponsors.

The sponsors can simply support them by giving them tech to review but they can also strike brand deals for which you can get paid simply for making the video.

Unlike the Adsense program where everything is run through 1 program, you’ll have to negotiate all these brand deals separately with the companies that offer them.

The most common sponsor mentioned in Austin Evans videos is Microcenter but he also works with brands such as Last Pass, LG, Keeps, Asus, Visible, Mattel, Dropbox, Lenovo and others.
