Pros and Cons of Launch Jacking
Traditional affiliate marketing has its pros and cons but Launch Jacking comes with its unique pros and cons that are important to be aware of. Let's take a look at a few of them.
Pros
1. Less competition
Most established products are being promoted by veteran affiliate marketers which means to stand out you’ll have to do a lot of work. This isn’t the case with newly launched products.
Everybody starts at the same point and fewer people promote these products which makes it easier to get noticed. As a result, you can earn money faster.
2. Access to free products
The creators of pre-launched products ideally want to have as many people mentioning their product as possible. A lot of these creators, give free access to their products so people can review them.
3. Peaks in traffic
During the launch, the company is likely going to invest in advertising which stimulates curiosity. If you can position yourself to be the first one they see after seeing an ad or hearing about the product you can earn a lot of money.
Cons
Hypes dies down drastically
After the launch, the hype of the product goes off a cliff most of the time because the creators aren’t pushing it as much as during the launch.
This often means even if your content is the first to appear on YouTube, Google, Facebook, etc the number of people visiting the page will go down.
This isn’t the case with well-established affiliate products that traditional affiliate marketers target. The traffic remains consistent.
No long-term benefits
Since launch jack products often lose relevance over time most people doing launch jacking just switch to the next product.
Launch Jackers often can’t benefit from the marketing efforts they’ve made creating content for that specific product long-term.
Fills your website with affiliate links
Launch Jackers tend to have websites full of affiliate links because they go from product to product.
In the “eyes” of search engines your website can be seen as a spam page full of bridge pages which makes it harder to rank for more competitive and lucrative keywords.
Now let’s take a look at the steps you’d need to take to start Launch Jacking.
Step 1. Finding Affiliate products
As a launch Jacker, it’s important to be aware of products that haven’t been launched yet so you can prepare properly and get the most out of your promotions.
There are 2 websites you shouldn’t ignore when you plan to promote newly launched products.
On these 2 websites, people can submit their product launches so that everyone who wants to promote their products can be notified when it drops.
It also gives “Launch Jackers” the ability to contact the creators, join their affiliate program, and even get free trials in some cases so that they can make content about the product.
Step 2. Building a funnel
A funnel is a path that a visitor takes from when they learn about a product up till the point he purchases the product.
As a marketer, it’s important to engineer this funnel so leads can be guided efficiently through the purchasing process and not get stuck in the “middle” and not purchase the product.
There are all types of funnels that you can use to promote products but the most simple funnel goes like this.
People arrive on a landing page which can be a content page that leads to a sign-up page where they can submit their email address.
After submitting their email address, you communicate with the lead through email showing him more context about the product in case it’s needed over multiple days.
On the final day, you send a call to action email with a link to the company where they can purchase the product.
You need to have this all mapped out before beginning your marketing campaign
Step 3. Create Promotional Content
The number 1 method most people use to promote affiliate products is content marketing.
It’s one of the cheapest ways to market products and helps with building trust between you and the potential customers.
In most cases, people will start with reviewing content to show what the product is all about.
The first piece of content you should make is a blog post detailing your personal experience with the product to rank it on Google.
Creating a simple blog to make money can be done in a few hours and doesn’t require you to have expert experience.
Google Search Central has come out with an article that has the blueprint they prefer to be used for review content. You can find this article by clicking here.
After creating the blog post, you can create a YouTube review video about the product as well.
No need to start from scratch you can use the content you created for the blog post and repurpose it for your YouTube video.
You’ll have to learn about :
- YouTube SEO Keyword Research
- Selecting Tags
- Writing YouTube Description
- Strategic Link Placement
People rarely click on the link and purchase products right away so I always advise people to create additional content that links with the review content.
This could be content about success stories, ways to utilize the products, content about the creator, in-depth analysis of specific features, frequently asked questions page, etc.
Now interlink all that content so people go through all your content about the affiliate product.
Step 4. Off-Platform marketing
90% of people doing launch jacking don’t bother to do more than create a blog post and a video. This means there’s a lot of opportunity to stand out simply by going the extra mile.
There are a few things I recommend you can do to get noticed.
- Link building
- Writing articles on Medium, Linkedin, and Substack
Step 5. Start capturing emails & guide them through the funnel to the purchase
Not everyone uses an email marketing service for launch jacking but I have found it to be beneficial in the long term.
Whenever a product is launched that can complement the product you’re promoting now you can let your email list know.
Now through email, you can provide them with as much context as needed and send them to the sales page where they can purchase the product.
Launch Jacking Tips
Research the founder
It’s important to know that Not every product on JVnotify Pro and Muncheye is a high-quality product. Affiliate marketing is based on trust so you must give good recommendations.
This is why I’d advise you before you target the launch of a product to research the creator and see if he has made other products that aren’t well received.
Pick a niche
Don’t start picking products in all types of niches. Stick to 1 niche so you can build some authority while you’re doing your promotions.
When you specialize in 1 niche the communication will become a lot smoother because you know what their pains, frustrations, and wants are.
Find a way to showcase experience with the product or subject
It’s become more important over time to not only give opinions of a product and mention the features but also to showcase that you have experience with the subject.
You’ll notice in the Google Search Central guidelines for reviews that this is an important part of reviewing a product.
Publish Your Researching process
People and search engines need to know that you aren’t just giving opinions based on nothing. This is why it’s important to publish a page that contains your review process and how you pick your sources.
Make sure to link to that page in your review so people have access to it and search engines can find it.
Create bonus pages for your affiliate offers
You'll deal with less high authority competition but that doesn't mean you'll have no competition at all.
This is why I'd advise you to give people an additional reason to purchase products through your links instead of others.
Create a bonus page and stand out from the competition.
Launch Jacking FAQ
Do you need a website to start launch jacking?
No, but I’d advise you to build a website because it gives you extra content that can rank in search engines.
It’s also true that some affiliate programs won’t accept you as a member if you don’t have a website.
So even if you’re not planning to create blog content just create a simple website so you won’t be limited to the affiliate programs that accept you without a website.
Is it expensive to start launch jacking?
No. launch jacking is relatively cheap. The only thing you’ll be paying for is an email marketing service and a website.
How much money can you make with launch jacking?
The earning potential with launch jacking is just as high as with traditional affiliate marketing.
So depending on the product price, the commission rate, and your marketing efforts it is possible to earn a full-time income with launch jacking.
That being said, I don’t believe that is the norm for most people doing launch jacking.
How old do you need to be to start launch jacking?
Technically, there’s no age limit for affiliate marketing but it’d be wise to read the terms and conditions of an affiliate program.
Some require you to be older than 18 while others don’t care how old you are.
Are there legal requirements for launch jacking?
If you’re going to capture emails and use affiliate links to earn money you must disclose that you’re doing this through a privacy policy and an affiliate disclaimer.
Final Words
Launch jacking has been around for a long time.
I started affiliate marketing in 2018 and even then people were doing it for years so it’s here to stay but as I said it does have some pros and cons.
