Summary:

Cashback World is a website that claims to make it possible to get money or discounts in exchange for shopping in specific places.

The cashback you’ll receive when shopping at stores that are affiliated with Cashback World can go up to 5% of the purchase you make.

I can’t say with 100% certainty that it’s a scam but the track record of the founder and the companies Cashback World is affiliated with gives me more than enough reason to be worried.

Founder of Cashback World?

Hubert Freidl

Hubert Freidl

Hubert Freidl is the founder of Cashback World a part of his multi-level marketing company called Lyoness he became the CEO of in 2004.

From what I have seen online Lyoness doesn’t have the best reputation. Legal authorities from multiple countries suspect that Lyoness is a pyramid scheme.

According to Hubert his Linkedin, he is also affiliated with a company called Myworld Holdings. I went to their website and found out that Hubert founded it.

Myworld Holdings is a joint venture between multiple companies including Cashback World.

They’re basically using the same strategy they used with Lyoness but they’re just calling it a different name.

Myworld Holdings

I’ll always give people the benefit of the doubt but Hubert’s history and seeing what Myworld Holdings is all about, do give me a cause to pause.

How does Cashback World work?

Cashback World is a part of the company Myworld Holding which is basically Lyoness and tries to stimulate people to buy more products from loyalty merchants by giving shopping points and cash back that you can exchange for money and special deals.

What is a loyalty Merchant?
A loyalty merchant is a store that is affiliated with Cashback World. These can be either physical stores or online shops. You can find a list that consists of every store affiliated with Cashback World.

What are shopping points?
Shopping points are basically a form of credit that members of Cashback World receive whenever they purchase at loyalty merchant.

Cashback World shopping points

According to the Cashback World website, you have to go through a 3-step process to either receive discounts or get a percentage of your cash back after making a purchase.

1. Register for Cashback World Membership
To take advantage of the cashback benefits of Cashback World you’ll first have to register for Cashback World and receive your Cashback World card.

3. Collect Cashback and Shopping points
Most cashback will give back 5% of the purchase and will be directly transferred to your bank account after reaching the threshold of $10 by requesting it either through the website or the Cashback World App.

You can also receive shopping points in exchange for purchases at loyalty merchants. These points can’t be exchanged for money but you can give you access to special deals and discounts on services and products that the loyalty servant provides.

User Ratings
I have visited several user rating websites to find out what users think of Cashback world and I have to say that users are very divided in their opinion of Cashback World.

Some users are exceptionally satisfied with the services cashback world provides while others think it’s a scam.

Cashback World Lucy review
Meg Bahadur Cashback World review

I do realize that a lot of products have divided user ratings about their products but both the positive and the negative reviews where extreme in my opinion which isn’t a good thing.

This seemed weird until I realized that the people that posted good reviews were talking about the cashback methods while the bad reviews were about their MLM program.

The history of Lyoness as a pyramid scheme

Earlier I talked about Cashback World’s connection to Lyoness.

Lyoness is a Multi-Level Marketing company.

Here is the cambridge dictionary definition of Multi-level Marketing:

a method of selling a product in which someone sells to people they know and then gives training to those people to sell the product themselves. The original person earns money not only from their own sales but also on what is sold by the people they have given training to:

*While some distributors have prospered in multilevel marketing, law-enforcement officials say the field also has fraudulent operations.

This looks a lot like a pyramid scheme and because of that they have had a lot of trouble in multiple countries including Austria, Italy, Sweden, Greece, and Poland.

In some of these countries according to Wikipedia, they have even been convicted of hosting a pyramid scheme.

Online reviews about Cashback World

Most reviews about Cashback World aren’t exactly positive. While I haven’t seen a lot of reviews where they complain about the shopping points they often talk about the inability to claim the cashback after purchasing products at loyalty merchants.

Other Cashback World review

My Personal Take

Since this is a website that is geared towards making money online I’ll give my take based on it’s potential to make money.

I don’t think Cashback World is the ideal method to make money with because you have to spend money to receive a cashback.

For the people that just want to benefit from cashback and discounts before you join Cashback World take this into account.

  • Cashback World is connected to what many beliefs are shady companies
  • It has a lot of bad user ratings
  • There aren’t a lot of positive reviews on Google

Can I say with certainty that it’s a scam? No, but I wouldn’t recommend Cashback World to anyone reading this post.

  1. The problem with cash back programs is that you are encouraged to spend money in order to get the cash back. So then people end up spending more than originally intended.

not to mention you have no idea who is seeing your personal information and what they are doing with it. If the owner has a bad reputation in business then I would find a company more reputable?

    • Hey Jake,

I agree the moment I see these kinds of red flags I find it hard to recommend it to anybody especially when there are other get-paid-to websites where you can make the money and discounts they promise on Cashback World.

    • Your personal information is already out there and why dont you want cash back ? If you are going to spend $1000 on insurance , groceries ,clothes ,uber etc… why don’t you want 2-3% of that purchase back ??? Including if the store itself has a rewards system as well ?? You get double back as a shopper ???

    • Hey Parveen,

Thanks for commenting. It does have some shady ties but I found it hard to call it a scam because there are more than a few satisfied customers. I wouldn’t recommend joining it though even if you just want to join for discounts and cashback.

    • I am very satisfied. I live in the U.K. and have no problem. I also earn commission as a marketer so I am set and with the introduction of Love2shop I get triple savings. It isn’t a scam and I do enjoy savings on all my purchases. The app follows your destination once the country has an established head office and India has one so it’s worth a try using the app and see what merchants are affiliated as obviously countries that are affiliated it will be difficult to benefit unless you get your friends in countries that are affiliated to join and become cashback shoppers or marketers.

  3. Earning cashback and rewards are shopper’s trend nowadays. I already have a few apps activated and strategize a technique to earn more by stacking with my credit card points. However, I was a bit disappointed with Cashback World because, on the site, it shows my region but on mobile, my country was rejected. I didn’t see anywhere that it’s a UK site until I read your review. They should have made it obvious from the beginning though.

    Reply
    • I noticed the same in my region. A guy from my reviewer’s mastermind lives in the UK does have full access to the map with loyalty merchants but I don’t.

  4. Hello Rogier. Thank you for sharing this review of CashBack World. This platform looks like a great way to save some bucks that can be spend on some other stuffs. However, from what I have seen in the review so far, this platform doesn’t look reliable plus the money is usually very little.

    Thanks for the insights…

    Regards!

    • Yeah, when you look at its history it definitely looks shady. I’m just more careful with calling things scams nowadays because some companies just aren’t run properly. In both cases, I wouldn’t recommend joining though.

  5. I have been using Cashback World card for a few years now. The main problem is the cashback part because small and medium companies often don’t settle their bills towards Cashback World, and then Cashback World can’t give the users their money. The Cashback World could cancel these contracts and remove those companies from the search, but they don’t want to do that because that would be negative advertising and would reject old and even new users, so they choose to keep the companies to keep the number of “partners” high. If you are using Cashback World card with big companies (eBay, Aliexpress, etc.) there will be no problem with the payouts, but then again there are many other alternatives that will give you more cashback with big companies than Cashback World.

  7. Only person who doesn’t get paid when we go shopping is the consumer. Now we can get paid and earn off the shopping of other people for free. From Walmart, Bp, Mobile, Target 80 of America’s top 100 companies are apart of this program with Billions in rewards available to members for free. All of these Super Giants, including the European Golf Tour Lyoness Open sponsored by BMW and Mercedes Benz. You think these Giants would be involved with a scam. I don’t think so they have the best lawyers. This world runs off shopping how could anyone have a problem with getting paid for something you have to do.

    Reply
    • Are you serious Derek? The only one who doesn’t get paid is the consumer?
That is the natural order of things, the consumer gives money to the seller in exchange for the goods, the seller gets money for his work – selling stuff and the company which made the product gets money for making the product, transport companies get money for transporting products. And then consumer pays them all to get the product.
Why would the consumer get any money when his role is to PAY and get the desired product?
Until I saw your comment I was reluctant if this is a SCAM, now I know it is. Yours is a classical comment from someone affiliated with the scammers.
      Thanks for clarifying.

  8. I have signed the contract with Cash back world in 2019 in London. Company never provided to my customers and to myself anything what they where promised. I paid for my contract £500, never received any services from them. And after one year they opened a case with a collection company, without even properly notifying me, for the outstanding balance of £950, for some monthly invoices which o should be paid for.
This company is not taking care of their business partners! Terrible customer service! Not a Fair trader! Not recommended for businesses
